DIY Bath Bombs

"Bath bombs you find on the shelf of your local super market are actually incredibly dangerous for you mama, and your littles!

Bath time is my favorite as an expecting mama, it helps me relax and unwind after chasing a toddler all day. I love to drop a bath bomb in and let my worries dissipate with the solidity of the bath bomb. BUT I just learned something and it is the complete opposite of relaxing!!

This is why I am choosing to Ditch & Switch the bath bombs I have for a truly safe alternative. I will buy from a company I can trust, or I will make them myself! Convenience is not worth this price."- Kenzie

Let's talk about some typical harmful things found in bath bombs. Remember to always look at the ingredients and then unpack them before buying something out of convenience. Know better, do better.

Dirty Bath Bombs

Baking Soda, Citric Acid, Food Grade PEG, Fragrance, Cosmetic Grade Pigment; while the list is short there is one specific ingredient I want to discuss, "fragrance". Fragrance could be listed as perfume, parfum, or natural fragrance/scents. But, all of these words really mean "a combination of around 3000 different secret ingredients (read:chemicals) mixed together."

The reason they can group these secret ingredients together without listing each one is a FDA loophole, they are protected under the description "trade-secret".

While other ingredients have to be listed on packaging, these do not so that companies can keep their formula a secret.

SECRETS DON'T MAKE FRIENDS!

All this does is create a way for companies to hide chemicals that can be linked to cancer, reproductive toxicity, allergies, migraines, gastrointestinal problems, and cardiovascular health decrease. Another reason I have a problem here is that these chemicals are known to bio accumulate, meaning they stay in your cells after you use the product, "fragrance" (read:the chemicals used to produce the scent) can be traced in breast milk. Meaning, what you are cleansing your skin with, is what you're risking feeding baby.

Young Living Simple Swaps

"Made with Lavender oil and Stress Away essential oil, our new essential oil bath bombs are a fun, fizzy way to unwind. We’ve used two of our most popular calming essential oils to create these relaxing bath bombs and filled them with nourishing ingredients and no unwanted additives.

Lavender essential oil—renowned for its soothing and calming aroma—makes the Lavender Calming Bath Bomb perfect for unwinding after a long day, while the Stress Relaxing Bath Bomb is a special treat thanks to the inviting, vanilla-lime scent of Stress Away oil.

These natural bath bombs are made without colorants, synthetic preservatives, parabens, or animal-derived ingredients, making them some of the best bath bombs you can get your hands on! Instead of artificial ingredients and harsh chemicals, we’ve made these vegan bath bombs with a mineral-rich formula and skin-loving ingredients, such as coconut oil and sweet almond oil. That means they’re not only fun and relaxing—they also leave skin soft, smooth, and moisturized."- Young Living

You can either make them along side me, by grabbing the ingredients yourself, or you can purchase my bath bombs in our market. They are made to order, so they are super fresh, custom to whatever scent you want and you can trust they are safe for you and your littles. Plus, they are kinda cute!

*Note: previously we were making our bath bombs with food coloring and in an effort to achieve a clean lifestyle, we no longer add food coloring or dyes.
