Family Day Trip: Apple Picking

Sky top orchard, apple cider doughnuts, apple picking, North Carolina, family fall adventure, fall festivities

Last weekend, we took a little family adventure to Hendersonville, North Carolina to Sky Top Orchard for some family fun and apple picking. Freddie and I brought along my sister Savanah and my niece Emelia "Emmy".

Ok, confession: I was really picking these apples to make some delicious tasty treats for our Goat Yoga participants this weekend and for our LIVE Friday Farm + Food Bake Night.

Second confession: two or three of these participants were only there for the infamous Apple Cider Doughnuts... hahaha

But really... it was all about quality time and family. It was all our first time apple picking.

And this is how Emmy felt about it!

Here are some of our fun photos and adventure.

Probably against the rules... but I really wanted them apples! ;)

Because... real life with kids :P

When they got to this point... it was time to reward them!

I'd say I did pretty well... even though they say not to "overfill"... I got my money's worth ;)

Some things we learned

  • Take a stroller or a wagon to pull ya children. Don't be "wearing" them. Ain't nobody wanting to carry 20 lb babies and 20 lb diaper bags up hill.

  • Wear comfortable shoes (because it's in the mountains). Tennis Shoes are best!

  • Check the temperature and plan to wear shorts because Apple Picking Season runs from late July through the beginning of October. In the South, it's still hottttt.

  • Go early... because it's hottttt.

  • Save the doughnuts for the end or else you'll never get far from the fruit stand.

  • Plan lunch around Hendersonville. It's a beautiful art community with tons of unique niche shops and eateries.

  • Don't wait too late in the season or the apples will be gone!

  • Check which apples you'd like to pick and plan according to the harvest calendar.

  • Take some water. It's hot. Remember that.

PS... We were so unimpressed with the livestock that we didn't take a single photo. We are kinda biased I guess... we just have some really cute animals at home. haha (sorry, not sorry)

Don't skip the doughnuts...

They are delicious and may be worth the trip themselves. Take it from Emmy.

Come bake with me tonight!

On the menu:

Apple Pie Bites
