The first day of fall was officially September 22, and I was immediately ready to decorate! Aren’t you? Budget conscious this year? I get that! So, before you step foot in that home decor store, let’s talk. I have a frugal mom tip for you, friend. I took an idea from a blog I read then changed it up. I read that you should take a walk in nature first to gain inspiration, which I thought was brilliant. However, I have 2 tiny humans who need to be entertained- what I did was make a list of things I thought would be pretty as decor in the house and then told them we were going on an adventure! So, on my list I have branches, berries, leaves, eucalyptus, pinecones, feathers, acorns, flowers, fruit, oh my!

Branches for pretty textures
Berries to fill wood vases
Leaves for the mantel
Eucalyptus for some greenery
Pinecones for votives
Acorns as filler
Feathers in vases
Flowers to dry
Fruit like apples and pears
We grabbed our list and a canvas bag and went on our walk.

There are so many benefits to nature walks with kids, first, it gets them outside to run off some steam! Second, it helps ground them and center them because truly they need it at desperately as we do. Third, my favorite reason of all, it is a way to minister to them.

"For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse." Romans 1:20
God is teaching us so much through nature, and I can't think of a better time to experience the magnitude of who He is as the seasons are changing. Autumn is the perfect time to experience the beauty of letting go. They say a picture is worth a thousand words and I think this season, being outdoors, is a pretty magnificent picture of Him. How could we walk through this place and not take note of the intentional design? How can we ignore the brilliance?

All that to say, as I walk through nature, making memories with my babies, and collecting decorations for our home, I am witnessing to my little ones. When they look around our very fall home, they won't just be seeing what mommy got at Hobby Lobby, they will be seeing what the Hands of God created and what could be better? This is just a small piece of witnessing to our babes, but friends, I am learning every second counts and those little ears are listening and those eyes are seeing especially when we think they aren't.
Don't come to my house and expect it to look like a picture from Home and Gardens Magazine, but come prepared to be loved and welcomed and seen.

Bonus: If you are so confused by that title, grab your fav preschooler and listen here.
